Thomas , "Red" , FORAN, Baron, duc de Saint Bar. le parachutiste du 551em , radio du colonel JOERG devenu aide de camp du Roi de Yougoslavie.
De racines Irlandaises, Tom FORAN est né à New Haven, Connecticut en 1922 il est le fils de John K Foran and Valerie Shannon. Un ancêtre présumé était Job Foran, un amiral de la flotte française qui a été fait baron par le roi Louis XIV en 1688. Le titre ducal de Saint Bar aurait été conféré à un autre ancêtre en 1799 par le roi de Naples et des Deux-Siciles.
En 1943, il se porte volontaire comme parachutiste et est affecté au 551em bataillon aéroporté, servant dans les campagnes d’Italie, et de France, il est parachuté derrière les lignes allemandes près de Draguignan. Il est blessé en France lors de la libération de Nice et en Belgique lors de la bataille des Ardennes alors qu'opérateur radio son commandant de bataillon le colonel Wood JOERG sera lui tué sur le coup.
Il sera décoré de la Bronze Star, de la purple heart avec deux palmes et la croix de guerre yougoslave. Il a été aide de camp du roi Pierre II de Yougoslavie et a ensuite défendu et publié . Par la suite, il a défendu et publié plusieurs livres sur la famille royale yougoslave Karageorges. Après la guerre, il a vécu à Paris, où il a représenté les vins et spiritueux européens aux États-Unis. Il était chevalier grand-croix avec écharpe de l’Ordre souverain de l'ordre de Malte, un ordre qu’il a servi à de nombreuses titres pendant 45 ans.
Tom FORAN fut dés notre première rencontre et jusqu'au dernier jour de sa vie un fervent supporter de notre travail de mémoire. Il meurt à Paris le 15 octobre 2005.

From Irish roots, Tom FORAN was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1922 he is the son of John K Foran and Valerie Shannon. A presumed ancestor was Job Foran, an admiral of the French fleet who was made a baron by King Louis XIV in 1688. The ducal title of Saint Bar would have been conferred on another ancestor in 1799 by the King of Naples and the tow Sicily.
In 1943, he volunteered as a paratrooper and was assigned to the 551st Airborne Battalion, serving in the Italian campaigns, and from France, he was parachuted behind the German lines near Draguignan. He was wounded in France (Nice) and Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge the day his battalion commander Colonel Wood JOERG was killed at 2 feet from him.
He was awarded of the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart with two palms and the Yugoslav War Cross. He was aide-de-camp to King Peter II of Yugoslavia.
thereafter championed and published several books on the Yugoslav Karageorges Royal Family. After the war he lived in Paris, where he represented European wines and spirits in the US. He was a Knight Grand-Cross with sash of the Sovereign Order of Malta, an order he served in many capacities for 45 years. Thomas FORAN was until the first time we met him in 1994 until the last day of his life a great supporter of our work of legacy. Tom died in Paris on october the 15th 2005.
