Johnnie Calvin WILDER est né le 7 octobre 1915 à Nelson en Géorgie, de James E WILDER et Nancy Ann WILDER, son père est décédé en 1938. il avait 5 frères et 2 sœurs.
Le lien avec le musée Operation-dragoon.com commence le jour où dans une rue de Draguignan, Var, un garage fut nettoyé et toutes les ordures jetées à la poubelle . Par hasard, nous sommes passés dans cette rue et sur le tas de décombres, se trouvait une musette.
Après un gros dépoussiérage, apparu le nom de J.C. WILDER au dos, suivi du matricule "34265793".
Après quelques recherches sur le internet, nous avons découvert que Johnnie C. WILDER fit parti du 143ème régiment d'infanterie de la célèbre 36ème "Texas" division d'infanterie débarqué à 10h15 sur "green beach" au Dramont le matin du 15 août 1944. Le 143ème régiment progressa vers le nord , le Muy, puis Trans en Provence et Draguignan où le régiment établit un campement du 17 au 20 août.
Ensuite, il a continua la route de la libération , Sisteron, Aspres, puis Grenoble pour remonter la vallée du Rhône et prendre plus tard part à la bataille d'Alsace.

Johnnie Calvin Wilder was born October 7, 1915 in Nelson Georgia, to James E Wilder and Nancy Ann Wilder, his father died in 1938. he had 5 brothers , and 2 sisters.
He entered in service in Georgia.
We hope one day to learn more about him, the connection with the Operation-dragoon.com museum is the day, in a street of Draguignan, a garage have been cleaned and all the rubbish were going to the street trash. By chance, we drove this street and a musette bag was on the top of it.
After taking care of it, it appear that the musette bag was named of J.C.WILDER on the back, followed by his army serial number ;" 34265793".
After some research on the web, we discovered that Johnnie C. WILDER was affected to the 143rd infantry regiment of the famous 36th infantry division landed in Le Dramont green beach at 10h15 on the moring of the 15th of august 1944. The 143rd regiment drove north , from Le Muy, Trans en Provence and Draguignan where the regiment stayed from the 17th to the 20th.
Then, it pushed to Sisteron, Aspres, on the way to Grenoble through the Rhône valley to ended in the terrible battle of the Alsace and Bulge.
Contacting the " 36th infantry Texas Military Forces museum" Lisa Sharik , the deputy director was able to find trace of him attached to the "L" company of the 3rd battalion only 3 days, from the 7th to the 10 of february 1945. Was he in a other unit of the 7th Army before ? We don't know yet, what is sure is that he let's his bag in Southern France in of August 1944 and for sure landed on that "D" day of the 15th of august.

Mission : Attack of Drusenheim, France. departed from Rohrwiller on the 10th of february 1945. Technical 5th grade WILDER, was a member of the first platoon, L company, 3rd battalion. The First platoon mission's was to take the houses north of the railway. The first line of houses were occupied at 5h00 by the platoon. Technical WILDER was among a group sent to secure a house on a side street. At 06h00, the order to withdraw was received. but the group found its way out cut by enemy machine gun positions. Later attacks to retake the position were repulsed..."

En contactant le célèbre "36em infantry texas Military Forces museum", Lisa Sharik, directeur adjoint, nous aida dans nos recherches et pu retrouver la trace de son appartenance à la compagnie "L" du 143em uniquement 3 jours avant sa mort, du 7 au 10 février 1945. Avait-il été déplacé d'une autre unité?? toujours est-il que le fait d"avoir retrouvé sa musette à Draguignan est bien la preuve qu'il avait débarqué en Provence et appartenu à la 7em armée Américaine..
Voici l'extrait du jour où Johnnie C. WILDER fut porté disparu:
"Mission: Attaque de Drusenheim, France. départ de Rohrwiller le 10 février 1945. Le Technicien 5ème grade WILDER, était membre du premier peloton, Compagnie L, 3e bataillon. La mission du premier peloton était de prendre les maisons au nord de la voie ferrée. La première ligne de maisons pu être occupée à 5h00 par le peloton. Le technicien WILDER faisait partie d'un groupe envoyé pour sécuriser une maison dans une rue latérale. A 06h00, l'ordre de retrait a été reçu. Mais le groupe à trouvé son chemin coupé par des nids de mitrailleuses ennemis. Les attaques ultérieures pour reprendre la position furent hélas repoussées ... " Le
rapport du premier lieutenant LEBIES. Officier. 143rd Inf. régiment. fait le 9 mars 1945.
Son corps ne fut jamais retrouvé. Il sera gravé sur le mur de mémoire des soldats portés disparus au cimetière Américain d'Epinal-Dinozé. de par cette musette sauvée par miracle, nous sommes heureux de pouvoir lui rendre hommage, pour que sa mémoire ne sois jamais oublié mais aussi celle de tous ces soldats disparus, ceux dont les familles n'ont jamais pu pleurer sur leurs tombes.
His boddy never been recovered, but Johnnie C. WILDER is mentionned on the wall of the Missing in action soldiers on Epinal American Cemetery. Dinozé. France.
